The belly sleeper
The belly sleeper needs a thin pillow. A pillow that he can shape as he wishes, since he generally holds it tightly in his arms. He sleeps partly on the pillow and partly on the arms. When we talk about down pillows, the belly sleeper should choose at least 70% down - more likely 80% or 90%.
The side sleeper
The side sleeper needs the highest and usually also the hardest pillow. This is because the side sleeper must bridge the greatest distance between the head and the mattress. Hence the full width of the shoulder. For down pillows, the side sleeper should choose at least 70% feathers or more.
The back sleeper
The back sleeper needs a pillow that is balanced in terms of thickness and degree of hardness. It swings between a soft pillow for the belly sleeper and a hard one for side sleeper. 50% down and 50% feathers. A 40-60 or 60-40 split is possible if you like it a little harder or softer.
Pay attention to individual differences
Everyone needs different types of support from their down pillows. The reasons for this are, for example, differences in shoulder width, spine position or head circumference. Therefore, a pillow for two people can be assigned to a different type of bed.
More down or more feathers in the pillow?
Feathers are heavier than down because their quill and flag are much harder and heavier than the arms of the down.
The higher the proportion of down, the greater the degree of softness of the pillow. However, since, in addition to the filling material, the bulk density also determines the support performance of the pillow, manufacturers can use this to change the type of bedding.

Bulk density and filling weight
The bulk density determines, in addition to the ratio between down and feathers, the filling weight and the filled volume, or rather the hardness, of the down pillow. Bulk density is the pressure that is exerted on the filling in order to convey it into the cushion cover. The filling power of the filling then determines how strongly it presses against the cover and thus also how much the corresponding pillow lifts your head.
As the proportion of down in the pillow increases, the filling weight of the pillow decreases. This is because the total volume of the pillow does not change with the same size and down is lighter than feathers.
Softer pillows therefore have a lower bulk density and usually a higher proportion of down. If a down pillow is specified as 90-10, the down percentage is 90% and the feather percentage is 10%. They are soft and deep.
Harder pillows have a higher bulk density and usually a higher proportion of feathers. If a down pillow is specified as 20-80, the down percentage is 20% and the feather percentage is 80%. They are firm and elevated.
